The Federal Government has intensified efforts to actualise the implementation of the National Single Window at the nation’s ports by 2026. Vice-President Kashim Shettima said this during the second meeting of the Ports and Customs Efficiency Committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Shettima explained that the policy aimed at creating a single platform to harmonise documentation, minimise human contact, and bring full transparency to the cargo clearance process, adding that it would be a game changer at the ports He noted that the target was to reduce average cargo clearance time from 21 days to less than seven days by the end of 2026. The vice-president also said that the move would position Nigerian ports among the top three most potent trade corridors in Africa. “By the end of 2026, we aim to reduce average cargo clearance time in Nigeria to under seven days and to position our ports among the top three most efficient trade gateways on the continent.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved a major shake-up in the Nigerian Navy with the appointment and redeployment of 65 Rear Admirals to new commands and strategic positions across the country. The massive redeployment, which took effect on October 30, 2025, affects postings at the Naval Headquarters (NHQ), Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Tri-Service Institutions, and other Navy establishments. According to a statement signed by Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, Director of Naval Information, the new postings are part of ongoing efforts to reposition the Navy for greater operational efficiency and improved service delivery under the leadership of Vice Admiral Abbas, the 23rd indigenous Chief of the Naval Staff.

The Ghana Navy on, October 31, apprehended 10 Nigerian stowaways aboard the Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel Grand Venus in Tema after responding to a distress call from the ship’s captain. The Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces announced this in a statement on its website. The call, made from a position at latitude 05°34’ North and longitude 000°05’ East, led to the swift deployment of Ghana Navy Ship YOGAGA BA to the reported location. Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects, all Nigerians, boarded the vessel secretly while it was docked at Lagos Port, Nigeria. The ship, along with the stowaways, was later escorted to the main harbour and handed over to Port Control, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police for further investigation.

The Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has dismantled a militant syndicate in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, allegedly terrorising sea travellers. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Azare, disclosed this at a news briefing in Uyo. Azare said the operatives caught and detained one male suspect, while others fled the scene. He said that the feat was achieved, in collaboration with marine hunters on Nov. 3. He said the suspect had confessed to being an active militant involved in sea piracy and kidnapping. “On Nov. 3, at about 11:45hrs, operatives of the command, in collaboration with Marine Hunters, intercepted and arrested one male suspect, aged 27. “The suspect is a native of Atakpere Community in Ekeremo LGA of Bayelsa. “He disclosed that his rifle was in the custody of one Kingdom Bane, the Village Head of Ine Eyoabasi fishing village.

Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha has taken over as the new Flag Officer Commanding ( FOC), Western Naval Command, where he pledged to establish a strong, technology-driven naval presence aimed at detecting and denying any criminal activity within the Command. Mustapha took over the mantle of leadership from the former FOC Rear Admiral Gregory Oamen in a colourful ceremony held at the command in Lagos. The ceremony, which included the signing of the Handing Over Note and the presentation of the Command’s insignia also witnessed farewell parade in honor of the outgone FOC. Speaking shortly after the official handing over ceremony, Rear Admiral Mustapha expressed appreciation to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for the opportunity to serve at the Nigerian Navy’s premier naval command and pledged to uphold and build upon his predecessor’s legacy.

The Nigerian Navy has vowed to safeguard the nation’s energy interests through enhanced inter-agency collaboration. The new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Rear Admiral Chiedozie Okehie, made the remark during his official assumption of duty in Calabar on. Okehie said that the mission of the present Chief of Naval Staff was to develop and deploy a highly motivated and professional naval force capable of safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests. The FOC said his mission would be based on philosophy that would be focused on discipline, merit, accountability, welfare, and operational excellence in steering the affairs of the Eastern Naval Command. According to him, it is pertinent to note that the CNS has defined a clear mission for the Nigerian Navy, which is to deploy a highly motivated workforce.
