The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says the troops of Operation Delta Safe destroyed 216 illegal refining sites across the Niger Delta region in October. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, made this known while briefing newsmen on the operations of the military in Abuja. Buba said the troops also destroyed 195 wooden boats as well as recovered 30 vehicles and 429 assorted ammunition during the period. He said that the troops also impounded 3.2 million litres of crude oil, 763,860 litres of Automated Gas Oil (AGO) and 12,690 litres of Premium Motor Spirits (PMS). According to him, troops operations have progressively increased the nation’s daily crude oil production to over 1.5 million barrels per day.

The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Ibaka has arrested three suspected oil thieves carrying a boat containing crude oil worth N32 million in the state. The Commanding Officer of the Base, Capt. Uche Aneke disclosed this while handing over the suspects and seized items to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Akwa Ibom Command at Ibaka. Aneke said the suspects were arrested, at about 09:05a.m following an intelligence report about the activities of suspected criminals involved in crude oil theft within the Navy’s area of operations. “The necessary support of FOB Ibaka, the Tantita team intercepted and arrested the suspected criminals with a wooden boat discovered to be laden with about 60,000 liters of product suspected to be stolen crude oil.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA will share details of her findings from the helicopter crash into the Atlantic Ocean near Bonny Finima, with the International Maritime Organization, IMO. This was just as the Flight Data Recorder FDR and Cockpit Voice Recorder CVR otherwise called the black box was recovered this weekend through an inter-Agency collaboration involving NIMASA, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau NSIB, the NNPC, HydroDive and other local and international search and rescue partners.
