This decision was reached during a session between Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director General of NIMASA, and Dr. Alex Vines, Director of the Africa Programme at Chatham House, accompanied by his team. The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) says it is working on a review of the 2007 NIMASA Act to tackle piracy on the nation’s territorial waters. The Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, made this known during a media conference held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. Mobereola said that the bill, when reviewed, would give NIMASA the right to control and monitor all kinds of vessel operations in the nation’s territorial waters. “The menace that has been carried out in the maritime domain is not done by the biggest vessels but the smaller vessels. “We will ensure all boats operating on our waters are well regulated to stop piracy,” Mobereola said.

President Bola Tinubu and President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea have signed an agreement on Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project to further affirm the partnership between the two countries for mutual development. Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and publicity, said in a statement, that the agreement was signed in Malabo. The agreement covered legislative and regulatory measures for the gas pipeline; its establishment and operation, transit of natural gas, ownership of the gas pipeline and general principles. In his remarks at the event, Tinubu, who is on a three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea, said the signing of the agreement would open up new opportunities for gas exploration and employment.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has disclosed that another 63 illegal refineries were discovered and confiscated in the past weeks. It was revealed in a documentary that the fight against oil theft was yielding results. According to the NNPC, about 177 incidents were recorded between August 3 and 9 by different incident sources, like Tantita Security Services, four; Shell Petroleum Development Company, 11; Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, 26; Maton Engineering Company, 20; NNPC 18 Operating Ltd, one; NNPC Command and Control Centre, 51; and government security agencies, 64.

The Federal Government says it will begin crude oil sales in Naira to Dangote Refinery and others in October. This is according to a statement by the Director Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Mohammed Manga in Abuja. Manga said that the inaugural meeting the implementation committee to fast track the transaction was presided over by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. “The Minister presided over a crucial meeting of the implementation committee on crude oil sales in Naira. “ It is a significant step towards ensuring the speedy realisation of the presidential directive on crude oil sales in Naira with a view to enhancing Nigeria’s economic growth and development,” he said.

The Nigerian Navy has busted an illegal refinery capable of producing over two million litres of Automotive Gasoline Oil, AGO, daily along the Isaka/Ogoloma River in Rivers The operation, carried out by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder, following the order of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, to eradicate oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta, involved the destruction of more than 500 crude oil cooking drums using a swamp buggy. The illegal refinery, which had a pipeline connected to a nearby oil wellhead operated by Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, was used by suspected oil thieves to siphon crude oil for refining..
